Rooted offers short term help to people in the Treasure Valley facing a sudden crisis they can't cover on their own. Here's how it works.
Who can receive help
Do I qualify?
You may qualify if all of these are true:
- You live in the Treasure Valley of Idaho.
- You're facing a specific crisis that began or got worse in the last 90 days.
- Your household income is at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines, or the crisis has left you unable to meet basic needs.
- No other source (savings, insurance, or another program) can fully cover the need in time.
What counts as a crisis
- Risk of eviction or losing your home
- A utility shutoff notice
- Sudden job loss, injury, or illness
- Fire, flood, or another disaster
- Leaving an unsafe home
- Losing a family member's income through death
- Other similar emergencies
What we can pay for
Assistance limits
Payments go directly to the landlord, utility company, or vendor whenever possible.

What we can't pay for
- Fines, legal fees, or bail
- Debts not tied to the current crisis
- Luxury or nonessential items
How to apply
Asking for help is simple
Most requests are reviewed within 3 business days. Urgent requests are reviewed within 24 hours.

Share basic proof
A photo ID, proof of address, and a document showing the need, like an eviction notice, shutoff notice, bill, or caseworker letter.
We review
Two board members with no personal connection to you review your request using our written guidelines.
We pay the bill
If approved, we send payment directly to your landlord, utility, or vendor and let you know.
In immediate danger?
Call 911. For other urgent needs like food, shelter, and local services, dial 211 to reach Idaho's free community resource line any time.
